A sales AI agent costs more than its sticker price. Budget for six lines: setup, a monthly fee, model usage, contact data and verification, sending infrastructure, and the hours your team still spends. Our Sales Intelligence Team costs $1,500 to set up plus $1,500 a month. Our SDR Team costs $5,000 a month plus a fee per meeting held.

What are the cost lines?

Six lines appear on every sales agent budget, whoever builds or runs it. Some vendors fold several into one fee. Others bill each one separately.

Cost line What it pays for How it is billed What to ask the vendor
Setup Your ideal customer profile, signal filters, templates, matching rules Once What inputs do you need from us, and by when?
Monthly fee Running the agent, fixing errors, weekly reporting Monthly What does the agent deliver each week?
Model usage Calls to hosted language models for research, drafts and reply labels Per use, or inside the monthly fee Is usage included, and is there a cap?
Data and verification Contact records, email lookups, address checks before each send Per record or per credit How often do you re-verify a list?
Sending infrastructure Domains, mailboxes, warmup, deliverability monitoring Monthly per mailbox and domain, plus a setup period Whose name are the domains in, and who keeps them?
Human time Replies, approvals, meetings, reading samples of the agent's output Your staff hours Which tasks stay with our team?

Two of our agent teams cover sales work. The Sales Intelligence Team sends a weekly buyer-signal digest, a brief before each booked meeting, a list of the events your buyers attend in the next 90 days, and alerts when a customer contact changes jobs. The SDR Team runs as Outbound: sending domains and mailboxes in your name, verified buyers at your ideal customer profile every day, sequences, reply handling and a weekly report. Prices confirmed 16 October 2026.

What does a year cost?

Add setup to twelve months of fees, then add the lines your vendor bills on top. A Sales Intelligence Team costs $19,500 in year one with us. An SDR Team costs $60,000 in fees over twelve months, plus a fee for each meeting held. A meeting counts only when it holds, with an attendee at Director level or above at your ideal customer profile, for 15 minutes or more.

A custom build of the same agent costs more before it sends anything. The average AI project on Clutch costs $120,595 and takes 10 months, and the most common size is $10,000 to $49,999 (updated September 2026). One firm's estimate puts a proof of concept at £15,000 to £40,000 over 2 to 4 weeks, and running costs at 15% to 25% of the build cost each year (Winder.ai, June 2026). We compare the two routes in agent install or custom AI build.

Why do data and verification cost more than they look?

Because a list decays and you pay to check it again. We re-verified 520 B2B contacts that a verifier had marked deliverable about 10 weeks earlier. 349 came back valid (67%), 53 catch-all (10%) and 118 invalid (23%) (our data, October 2026; two verifiers, July and October).

Old lists bounce. On the first 600 emails of one campaign, a list verified the week before sending bounced at 0%. Lists verified about 10 weeks earlier bounced at 3.7% to 5.2% (our data, October 2026). The segments were small, 43 to 219 sends each, so read the direction and leave the decimals.

Signals cost money to filter as well. Our catalyst monitor logged 6,069 buying signals between 26 July and 7 October 2026, and 5,857 of them (96.5%) were too imprecise to email about (our data, October 2026). Ask a vendor how they filter signals before they spend your data credits on them.

What does sending infrastructure add?

A setup period and a monthly bill for domains and mailboxes. New mailboxes need to warm up before they send cold email. Ours send after a 14-day warmup (our rule, October 2026). The number of domains and mailboxes follows from your daily send volume, and we size it in how many sending domains and mailboxes B2B outbound needs.

Ask who owns the domains. If the vendor registers them in its own name, you lose the domains and their sending history when the contract ends.

How much human time does a sales agent still need?

Five tasks stay with a person, on your side or ours:

  1. Write the ideal customer profile and the rules for what counts as a buying signal.
  2. Approve the templates, the offer and every claim the emails make.
  3. Answer replies that need a human answer, including pricing, terms and referrals.
  4. Read a sample of the agent's output each week. We caught a hiring signal for one company that our data tool had matched to a different company with a similar name. A person spotted it, and a rule now stops it.
  5. Run the meetings the agent books.

Name one owner on your team for tasks 2 to 4 before the agent starts.

How fast is spending on AI agents growing?

By 77.3% in 2026, on Gartner's forecast (CIO.com, 23 September 2026). Gartner puts spending on AI agents and assistants at $29.2 billion this year (techstrong.ai, 21 September 2026). As more vendors enter, check how each one bills the six lines. Compare total year-one cost across all six lines, and set it against what you pay per meeting today, using how much you should pay per qualified meeting.

What should you check before you sign?

  • Year-one cost written down across all six lines
  • Model usage included or capped in writing
  • List re-verified within a week of each send
  • Domains registered in your company's name
  • A per-meeting fee defined by attendee seniority and length
  • A named person on your team for replies and weekly samples
